These historic gardens, nestled between the coastal forest and the ocean, are the home of the Stanford Inn By The Sea. Big River Nurseries, our California certified organic garden, uses French intensive, biodynamic and organic methods, raising a wide variety of lettuces, cabbages, spinach, radishes and gourmet vegetables such as radicchio, mizuna, arugula and tah tsai. We are also experimenting with different varieties of fruit trees. The Raven’s restaurant [nationally acclaimed for its vegetarian cuisine] serves a wide variety of organic vegetables and herbs from the garden. The approach is essentially seasonal - what is available in Northern California is generally what we serve for breakfast and dinner.
