Kibbutz Lotan (Israeli Environment Minister's Award 2000) is in the heart of the Arava Valley in the shadow of the red Edom Mountains. It's an ideal base for exploring the surrounding Eilot / Eilat region. The Eco-Projects began as a small desert organic garden, then expanded to building a migratory bird reserve and nature trail. The organic garden is a means to demonstrate how to grow vegetables and herbs, save energy and water consumption, create soil, nurture a co-operative spirit, and excite people so much they go home and start doing it (the home garden supplies organic vegetables for Lotan's internal consumption). For those who are interested there are seminars, lectures and tours.
